There is a legend of the first Nel'oth, the original. An individual that claimed power over all of the affinities. Stranger still is the rumor that they possessed a plethora of magnificent wings and had no markings. Some believe that one must permanently get rid of all their markings to achieve this level of ascension, some believe that a child must be born without markings, and others believe it to be just rumors. This has led to two main cults that believe that these tales are more than just rumors. The cult of █[REDACTED]█ believe that bleaching their skin to get rid of their markings will help them achieve higher magical potential. While the cult of █[REDACTED]█ believe that breeding for no markings will produce an extraordinary child.
There is some truth in those rumors though. You see, the first "Nel'oth" is actually from a more ancient species of a higher intelligence and capable of flight through space. The parent species of Nel'oths are called Neo'riffs, which are cosmic horrors that resemble large space wyrms, originating from the deep abyssal recesses of the void. Around 50,000 years ago, a Neo'riff (whose names have been lost to time) had flown from their home in the void to start new colonies. When they found Dratenchya, the one being split into two individuals (half the size of the original). The offspring of one had Sun affinity, and the offspring of the other had Moon (elemental affinity is an adaptation that Nel'oths have achieved over time). After the first generation of Nel'oths were strong enough to fend for themselves, the Neo'riff's halves fused back into one and left to continue their journey across the cosmos.
The Nel'oth's alien and eldritch heritage explains why there is no fauna on Dratenchya that resembles them, as there is no closely related species. However as far as everyone is concerned, Nel'oths are very much part of that planet as any other organism on it. Nel'oths are one of the dominant species of Drarenchya. However they are known to appear on other planets and even other dimensions (courtesy of Nel'oths with Sun+Moon affinity because they can make portals to other dimensions/locations). However they are prone to slavery as the other races often see them as beasts of burden because of their typical quadrupedal nature, forgetting or choosing to forget that the Nel'oth's intelligence is on par with theirs.
Although a rare occurrence, visitors (beings that don't live on Dratenchya) come by and employ Nel'oths for their skills and talents, or offer them a ticket off of the plant for other gigs. Sadly sometimes Nel'oths are abducted by more advanced races to be experimented on or kept as pets or beasts of burden.
