Despite being able to be bipedal, they spend most of their lives on all fours. Nel'oths typically lead pretty peaceful with a normally a simple lifestyle. However they are known to sometimes leave their tribe to immerse themselves in the big cities of Dratenchya.
Tribes and Clans are essentially a Nel'oth's extended family. Whether they like other members in their group or not, it is what they are born into. However they are not 100% bound to that and will sometimes leave to find another group that they will function better with. Some Nel'oths leave by choice to live as a rogue or live a lifestyle similar to that of a hermit.
Tribe: A typically large group of Nel'oths (minimum 30) that have stayed together for generations. Outsiders are welcome depending on the the tribes mentality. (Sometimes necessary to avoid inbreeding)
⬥There is a leader called a Monarch that is the head of the tribe, who is watched & advised by an elder (1-3 elders, depending on the size of the group).
⬥Can either be settled in an area or nomadic.
⬥They make their own shelters that are either permanent or temporary, depending on their life style.
⬥They have electricity for certain objects like lamps, and have facilities like inns and hospitals and shops.
⬥Tribes are more respected than clans.
Clan: A group of Nel'oths (minimum 5) that form because of a friendship or a strong uniting factor. Usually has 1 leader called an Alpha. Clans are formed by Nel'oths that have left their tribe to start their own , or by individuals that are deserters/traitors or outcasts
⬥Clans are often seen as outcasts.
⬥Can either be settled in an area or nomadic.
⬥Can become a tribe with enough individuals.
Nexus: When several tribes combine to live together. Population size ranges from a large town to a small city.
Please note Chimerateeth (Serebromaneater) if you want to make a tribe/clan for your Nel'oth to belong to! It will be added to their Masterlist and Dratenchay on Toyhouse. You must have a name for this group. You do not need to own all the Nel'oths in the group. You can recruit other people's Nel'oths to join your group. Only a minimum of 1 Nel'oth is needed to register for a tribe/clan.
Tribe Leader: Monarch
Cusine: Omnivorous. Use of meats, vegetation, and spices to produce tasty food.
Body Modificaiton: Nel'oths are a fairly decorative species. They will perform body modifications for traditional, symbolic, and decorative purposes. These modifications consist of making small cuts to the lobe of crests, and piercings and gauges in their crests. As well as piercings on the face, and any other fleshy protrusions such as wings, tongues, and ears.
Clothing: There is clothing, garments, accessories, etc. to embellish & decorate their body however its not necessary.
Currency: Bi or multi colored gems are highly valued. So much so that a certain type called lusters or luster gems (or gems for short) are used as their currency. Along side Luster gems, Mermaid scales are used (produced by Nel'oths with the mermaid trait). Mermaid scales are highly coveted and collected by Nel'oths and other species. If you have a mermaid Nel'oth, they produce only 1 Mermaid scale a month, which can be traded in for gems at the shop.
Pets: Nel'oths love to keep critters and take care of them. Since Nel'oths are pretty tall, these pets are typically smaller than a Nel'oth. These creatures also have lower intelligence in comparison to Nel'oths. Info on these species here
Cannonical Pets: Sluggs, Peepers, Florines, Gallanors, Meeksa
Courtship: Crests are usually very important when it comes to finding a partner. The more they have, the more appealing they can seem to the Nel'oth they are trying to woo. Males will thrash their tails from side to side and “fan” their crests in a display while they dance. Females will slither their tail non threateningly if they accept the other Nel'oth as a potential partner. (then they start dating)
The crests are also used as threat displays and showing off. It is the equivalent to a human’s way of bragging.
Relationships: Typically monogamous, however polygamous relationships are accepted and make up about 5% of all relationships. Inter-species relationships are also accepted but an uncommon occurrence.
Cannibalism: It is not unheard of in more savage or technologically primitive Nel'oth groups to participate in cannibalism. These clans or tribes tend to only eat the weak or outsiders. The remains of respected elders are usually untouched and buried instead. And is socially acceptable to cannibalize dead Nel'oths during times of survival (life or death situations). There are also some cults that center around cannibalism as well.
However it is a high risk practice. There are individuals that have gone mad from it. Because when a Nel'oth consumes the flesh of another, any left over magic is absorbed (magic of a dead Nel'oth decays over time). Which manifests into a temporary the magic affinity, Blood.
